Turbo v11: Faster page speed, high-variant support, refreshed demos

Turbo v11 makes your store faster where customers feel it, on mobile and on the pages that do the selling. The product page has been rebuilt, so variants, swatches and options behave reliably every time. Products with hundreds of options are now supported natively, which means you can sell your full catalog without workarounds. Refreshed demos and a new dark-mode preset give you polished starting points, and clearer editor controls make the theme quicker to shape around your brand.

For your store, all of it arrives as a standard theme update with your customizations intact: speed and features together, not one at the expense of the other.

Faster where customers feel it

Page speed is one of the few revenue levers a merchant fully controls. Shopify's analysis of Core Web Vitals across actively-selling stores found conversion drops about 3.5% for every additional 100 milliseconds of load time, and work by Deloitte and Google across 30 million Shopify sessions found that a 0.1-second improvement lifts sales by 8.4%. Core Web Vitals are also a confirmed Google ranking factor, so a faster store converts more of the traffic it gets and earns more traffic to begin with.

For feature-rich themes, that often comes with a catch. Industry benchmarking from EasyApps puts the average Shopify mobile PageSpeed score at 38 out of 100, with feature-rich premium themes landing between 25 and 40 and mobile load times of four to five and a half seconds. The conventional wisdom is blunt: if you want speed, give up features. And you can't fix it from the outside. Performance specialists at scandiweb find that tactical, store-level optimizations top out around a mobile score of 60. Past that, the work has to happen inside the theme.

That work is Turbo v11. jQuery is off the critical rendering path, so the browser no longer waits on roughly 86 KB of blocking JavaScript before it can paint your page. The single vendor bundle that used to ship to every template is now split into page-specific modules, and the heavier libraries load only when a customer actually uses them: open a lightbox and it loads, ignore it and it never downloads at all.

In our own testing, homepage Lighthouse moved from 65 to 92 and collection pages from 76 to 85, with no features removed and nothing for you to configure.

Upgraded variant picker

The variant picker is the busiest control on the most important page in your store, and it's been rebuilt from the ground up using shared Kit components, the same modern architecture that powers variant pickers across our newer themes.

Variant switching, swatch rendering, and option handling are cleaner, faster, and more reliable. The previous implementation was tightly coupled to legacy code, which made it fragile and accounted for a significant share of Turbo's product page bugs. Replacing it resolves those issues at the source rather than patching them one at a time.

High-variant product support

For the first time, Turbo natively supports products with more than 100 variants, all the way up to Shopify's 2,000-variant limit.

Variant data loads dynamically, the picker handles large option sets without performance degradation, and the gallery updates correctly across variant switches. If you sell apparel, made-to-order or custom goods, or B2B products with deep option sets, you no longer have to build workarounds or pick a different theme to do it.

New look to get you started

The new Chicago Night is a dark-mode preset, joining the existing six as a seventh option. It's a polished starting point for dark-themed stores, and a good demonstration of how far Turbo's styling can flex.

Better control over quickshop and slideshows

A new slideshow overlay opacity setting gives you precise control over text readability on hero images, replacing the previous fixed overlay.

We've also fixed a bug where the quickshop modal background color setting was being ignored, so quickshop now honors your brand colors (and dark presets like Chicago Night render the way they should).

A cleaner editor experience

Turbo v11 tightens the theme editor. Labels have been clarified, controls grouped more logically, and helpful descriptions added where they were missing. Customizing Turbo is faster and more intuitive, which means less time hunting for settings.

Alongside that, the currency code bug behind one of our most common support tickets is fixed, and the social icon set is up to date, with Twitter replaced by X and Threads added.

What this means for your store

Faster page loads, better interaction responsiveness, and improved Core Web Vitals. These are the metrics that feed both your search rankings and your customers' experience of shopping with you. What also changes is your ceiling. Product pages that used to strain under large option sets now handle them natively, so the catalog you want to sell is no longer a theme decision.

If you're running Turbo today, you get all of this through a standard theme update. Use Theme Updater & Backups to keep your existing customizations and code edits intact. Your settings stay where you put them.

We'd encourage you to benchmark it yourself. Run your key templates through Google PageSpeed Insights before you update and again after, and check the Web Performance dashboard in your Shopify admin over the following weeks as real-user data accumulates. Mobile is the number that matters most, as it's where the majority of Shopify traffic lands and where the gap between fast and slow is widest.
