Out of the Sandbox boosts affiliate program — again

The Out of the Sandbox affiliate program has been a popular way to refer friends, clients and colleagues to great Shopify themes while making a little extra money on the side — and the program just got even better.

Starting Oct. 1, 2019, Out of the Sandbox has partnered with Pixel Union to combine our respective Shopify theme affiliate programs.

That means you can earn commission on eligible sales from two of the most popular Shopify theme developers in the world under a single program.

If you’re already an affiliate of Out of the Sandbox, the transition is almost completely transparent.

• Your existing affiliate links do not need to be updated.
• You do not need to sign up for a separate account to refer customers to Pixel Union Shopify themes.
• If, for some reason, you do not wish to refer customers to a particular Shopify theme offering, you are not required to do.
• If you send a visitor to Out of the Sandbox’s site but they end up later buying a Pixel Union theme, you will not be credited with that sale unless they have also visited the Pixel Union site via your link (or vice versa).

The only significant change is that you now need to use a different URL to log in to your dashboard: https://shopifythemeaffiliates.refersion.com/affiliate/login

However, as long as you have completed your profile — including a valid PayPal address — when you registered, there’s typically no need to access the dashboard. Your clicks will continue to be tracked whether or not you visit it.

If you were a member of Pixel Union's affiliate program, your account has been merged into the same system (and you should use the same link above). If you were a member of both programs, your accounts should have been merged together.

Rules of the road

Now’s also a great time to remind affiliates (or anyone considering signing up), about some of the rules and guidelines of our affiliate program, which remained unchanged from before.

1. As of May 2019, we no longer allow discount, coupon or deal sites to be affiliates.
2. At the same time, we also announced that affiliates can no longer post discount codes to public websites.
3. Finally, May 2019 also eliminated the requirement to have a $100 minimum to receive payment and we are continuing to honor that commitment. However, please be sure to review our affiliate payment FAQ. Because there is a brief “hold” on all conversions, it’s important to keep in mind that it can still take up to approximately 60 calendar days from the date a conversion is recorded until it is paid.
4. If you’re planning to use the affiliate program in conjunction with paid search or other advertising or content, there are some additional guidelines to be aware of.

Support and sales

While our affiliate programs are merging, Out of the Sandbox and Pixel Union will continue to maintain separate sales and support operations.

That means if you, a client, friend or colleague buy an Out of the Sandbox theme, you can contact our support team for assistance. Likewise, any Pixel Union theme questions should be directed to their team.
